Working Together for a Better Credit Union
Sometimes it gets complicated. With Boards of Directors, Management, Committees, Volunteers and staff all performing their roles at their own level and staff members divided between granting loans, credit control and counter duties. Not to mention compliance and the strict regulatory environment that currently exists, there are times when you get so focused on your own area that you lose sight of developing an integrated approach that will bring everyone together on the same page to work for the benefit of the credit union and the members.
In my opinion the two key areas in every credit union are granting loans and getting the money back (with a bit extra!) and this action packed three hour session will give you the ideas, the structure, the tools and techniques necessary to get your credit union working as a single unit.
Everyone still has their individual area of expertise and responsibility, everyone needs to discover how their actions impact on the other areas within the credit union and what they can do differently to have a positive impact on all other areas.
From getting the right information at the start, having a clear application process that outlines what information needs to be received for every application based on the amount required and the track record of the member, and one that asks the right questions for the right reason. More importantly you need to know what to do with the information when you get it and how you can turn the numbers into a story that gives you the insight you need to make better decisions.
You need to be aware the impact of refusing a loan can have on the credit control department as there are times when an excellent paying member is refused a loan they sometimes stop their payments altogether.
You pay fortunes for information and data on your members from ICB to Information Agencies, the reality is that you have much better information hiding in the files within your credit control section, if you only take the time to look and know the right questions to ask.
By fully understanding your own role and the role of everyone around you, you can begin to build a better credit union.
We will also look at the important role played by counter staff and finding a way to incorporate their knowledge into both the loan granting and the credit control functions.
This three hour presentation is delivered by The Credit Coach, Declan Flood in person. He will challenge you and give you a host of ideas that will have a positive impact on the whole credit union. The talk can be delivered in the mornings, afternoons or evenings, even Saturday’s if that works better for you.
By the nature of this course it only works for individual credit unions. The other courses on loan assessment and credit control can work at chapter level, this one won’t because we have to get down to the specifics that are different in every credit union.
